IKEA Hack: Rose Gold Desk & Chair

Calling all Stay At Home Moms!! Let’s talk workspaces. I have a hard time working without a designated workspace. I literally stopped writing blog posts for 3 weeks, even though I had so many ideas, simply because I didn’t have a workspace to write. Talk about a waste of time! The power of the mind, am I right?

Well, I got tired of making excuses as to why I wasn’t writing and decided to be proactive and get myself a desk and chair. Now we didn’t have a lot of money left over in our budget to get my dream desk, we actually didn’t have money at all. So, I searched the internet, google, FB Market Place, & Craigslist and found some amazing used desks, but still out of budget or too far to pick up. So I decided to get on IKEA and attempt an IKEA hack.

A desk alone, a good desk, is a minimum of $50, but at IKEA you can get a table top, legs, and chair for about $45 in total. Such a steal right?! They are super simple standard pieces, but seeing as I love D.I.Y. projects, I decided I could totally dress them up to seem like more expensive pieces.

The End Results:

I am loving how they turned out! I feel so inspired every time I sit at my new desk, like I could take over the world. Plus! I did it all by myself, did not need my hubby’s help. Well, I did need him to carry them in, but that was about it! LOL I also used my left over spray paint to paint an old mason jar to hold my pens! It is so elegant and ties the rose gold all together.

This is a super simple, clean, and minimalist style. I did not want a desk with storage space because I wanted to keep it a visual art piece as well, since it will be in my living room. Plus less clutter helps me focus.

Instructions are below.

Let me know your thoughts! I’d love to hear feedback.

-Drill (Recommended)

Directions:

Step 1: Gather all “metal” pieces, chair legs & table legs, and take them to an outdoor space. Lay down newspaper or a blanket you do not use to spray your metal pieces. Spray all pieces and let dry. I recommend spraying at least 3 coats to get a nice, vibrant, metallic tone.

Step 2: While your pieces are drying attach the screws and plate to the table top with your drill. You do not need to spray these since you will not see them.

Step 3: Once your metal pieces are fully coated and dried, finish putting your chair and table top together.

Thats it! Super easy and the end result is stunning!

Pro Tip:

I love my chair, but it is a little hard! I mean, it’s plastic! LOL

I recommend getting a chair pillow for those long working hours at your new, stylish desk.

I didn’t realize IKEA sold the table like this, what an awesome option! I was lucky we already had a good setup and good computers to use. Great idea though!!
